Super Bowl LV is here and will take place on Sunday 7 February at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. The home team, Tampa Bay Buccaneers will become the first team to contest the NFL showpiece game on home soil, when they take on the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
It is a game that has many experts predicting something very special. Tom Brady, perhaps the greatest NFL player of all time, will go up against the man many will feel will inherit that title one day in Patrick Mahomes. Two high-power offenses that score plenty of points will go up against each other.
It is also a contest between the youthfulness of the Chiefs against the vast experience and knowhow of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Little wonder then that there has been such huge interest in the game and of course, there are plenty of punters all around the world keen to have a bet on the game.

Super Bowl LV Preview
This year’s Super Bowl will be the first time that any team has attempted to win the Lombardi Trophy on their home soil. It represents a huge opportunity for Bruce Arians and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to justify the risky approach he took to try and bring a Super Bowl back to the Bay area by investing heavily in very experienced players.
Signing the likes of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul was condemned by many as risking the future of the franchise. Arians was unrepentant feeling it offered Tampa a chance to win now.
A year on, and a place in the Super Bowl assured, he has vindication for that decision.
However, it won’t be easy for the Bucs even on home soil. The Kansas City Chiefs have been the dominant force in the NFL over the past two years. The current Super Bowl Champions went 14-2 in the regular season, their second loss coming in the final game of the season when Andy Reid essentially rested all his key starters.
The only team to beat the Chiefs at full strength this season were the Las Vegas Raiders back in Week 6 (32-40).
With an offense that at times is almost impossible to stop and which can rack up points very, very quickly, it is going to be the sternest test yet for the Buccaneers, who earned their Super Bowl berth on the back of three fine road wins in the playoffs at Washington, Cleveland and then Green Bay.
How Do The Teams Compare?
Although there are a number of similarities between the two teams contesting Super Bowl LV, explosive offenses, top quarterbacks, defensive playmakers, in other ways the teams are also polar opposites.
Let’s take a look at how the two compare with our tale of the tape look at the two teams.
Chiefs V Buccaneers – Tale Of The Tape
Kansas City Chiefs | Versus | Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
14-2 | Regular Season Record | 11-5 |
1 | Seed # | 5 |
Bye | Wildcard Weekend | 31-23 @ Washington |
22-17 v Cleveland Browns | Divisional Round | 30-20 @ New Orleans |
38-24 v Buffalo Bills | Championship Game | 31-26 @ Green Bay |
Andy Reid | Head Coach | Bruce Arians |
Patrick Mahomes | Quarterback | Tom Brady |
1 | Wins Over Opposing QB | 2 |
1 | Offense Rank | 5 |
10 | Defense Rank | 9 |
1 | Special Teams Rank | 26 |
2 – 1970, 2020 | Previous Super Bowl Wins | 1 – 2003 |
6 | Head to Head Wins | 7 |
As you can see, the similarities and differences between the two teams are quite obvious. Perhaps the biggest, and potentially most telling, could be on Special Teams, where the Chiefs ranked first in the NFL for this unit, while the Buccaneers ranked a very lowly 26th out of 32 teams.
The Battle Of The Quarterbacks – Mahomes V Brady
These two great quarterbacks have met three times previously when Brady was with the New England Patriots and the veteran six-time Super Bowl winner has won two of those games. Patrick Mahomes though was the victor when the two teams last met back in the 2019 regular season.
Brady has the edge over Mahomes in terms of experience and knowhow in the playoffs. No player has played and won more playoff games and Super Bowl games than Brady. Despite questions about his arm strength, the 43-year-old has played very well for the majority of the season to lead the Bucs into the Super Bowl.
However, as Green Bay showed, if Brady is pressured, he can make mistakes as he does not have a change of pace to get away from a pass rush.
Mahomes may lack Brady’s experience, but he is a Super Bowl winner himself, he has also plentiful Play Off experience for someone aged just 25 and unlike Brady, he can easily evade a pass rush using his feet. Although a Turf Toe injury could compromise this threat a little in the game.
The Chiefs quarterback also benefits from a staggeringly potent offense that has so many weapons that if you stop one, the Chiefs will just hurt you with another. Stop the running game? Tyreek Hill will burn you. Manage to stop Hill and the Run, then Tight End Travis Kelce will have a big game. Stop all three and Mahomes burns you with his feet. It’s pick your poison for most defenses when facing the Chiefs.
Mahomes can be a slow starter in games, Brady tends to start games quickly and that could be interesting early on, but there is no doubt that whoever wins this battle will be the one holding aloft the trophy at the end of the game.
What Are The Bets To Back For Super Bowl LV?
So who will win the Super Bowl this year? A quick look at the odds for the game show that the Chiefs are the -3.0 favourites in the Spread bet (5/6 with bet365), while you can back the Bucs at +3.0 at even money.
For me, even with the -3.0 handicap, the Chiefs are the pick here.
That also means that I would back the Chiefs to win the game on the Money Line bet (10/17 with bet365) although this doesn’t offer as good a value for punters as the Spread.
In the Over/Under market the mark has been set at 56.5 and given the two offenses on display, I think the Over 56.5 option at 10/11 with bet365 is the best choice.
Finally, for the MVP betting market with bet365, back Patrick Mahomes to make it back-to-back MVP titles in this game at 5/6 with bet365.
